New Campus Bee "Hotel" with Alveole

By Blake Choy, Amelia Ng, and Elaine Tao, Grade 3

On Wednesday, our Alveole beekeeper Adam built a bee hotel at WPGA. First, he made sure that the bee hotel was level and that the pole was at the right height. Then he attached the bee hotel. The bees are going to lay eggs in the bee hotel. There may be leaf cutter bees and miner bees; hopefully we don’t get any wasps! Then we put a transparent roof to keep out the rain and UV rays. Once it was ready, we put soil in the base and planted seeds to grow some flowers for their buffet. We can’t wait to see the bees lay their eggs in our new bee hotel. If you want to check it out, it’s in the amphitheatre near the Upper Gym!

Since 1996, West Point Grey Academy has gratefully resided on the Jericho Lands, the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Band), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) Nation and sə̓lílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nation. Honoured to learn and play on these beautiful lands, we endeavour to be a leader in Indigenous education. In creating shared understanding and opportunities, we hope to help foster a more equitable society for all.
